The Geek Who Wore Red Shoes

This post brought to you by PF Flyers. The content and opinions expressed below are that of LockerGnome.

Lately, I’ve been rediscovering things that fascinated me when I was younger.

I remember there being a high-top craze for a while back in the ’80s – and, even though I was not inclined to wear high-tops to better play a sport, I knew that my childhood would have been incomplete if I didn’t get a pair.

So, I got a pair of high-tops and wore them out.

When given the opportunity to take a look at what PF Flyer had to offer for high-tops these days, my mind immediately regressed and I nearly gagged myself with a spoon. Like, totally.

The selection, in a word, is radical.

Do kids still use that word these days, or are they just too on fleek for it?

Well, anyway – I took a look at what PF Flyers had for sale (and really appreciated its “Uncommon American Style” tagline – since I do feel like a very uncommon American, being someone who would rather re-watch old episodes of “Transformers” instead of newer episodes of “Adventure Time”).

I wore white high-tops back then, and have largely worn black footwear ever since (except for those days in college when I found myself traipsing around town in grunge-ready beige hiking boots).

So, I was looking for something different. Uncommon, if you will – and not just because I needed to find something uncommon. I wanted something different.

That’s how I ended up with my very first pair of full-on red footwear. These PF Flyers flew from the Internet onto my feet in a matter of days, and I think they make a statement.

I love red – it’s my favorite color. Why it took me so long to get red shoes is beyond me, but there’s no turning back now.

My wife loves them, too – and she’s a shoe aficionado. She can tell the difference between one pair and another even if it means that one pair is a millimeter thinner than the other one (seriously, it’s like a talent that she has – because I can’t see the difference every time she points it out to me).

I don’t want to think about what kind of shoes I want to wear on any given day – I just want to wear comfortable shoes that will make people think: “Hey, that’s different and awesome. I wonder if that guy has a blog?”

Mission accomplished.

Maybe you’re looking for something a bit less “Wowie Kazowie” and a little more “Hubba Hubba” (if people still say that)? There are plenty of options for you to quickly flip through before you find your sole mate.

My brother (Adam) once told me that you can tell a lot about someone simply by their choice of shoe, and I think he’s right. I also think it’s possible to get a feel for someone’s personality simply by reviewing their most recent tweet. Oh, and speaking of social: Check out PF Flyers on Tumblr!

You won’t lose with the shoes you choose if you get them through PF Flyers. I can’t walk three nanometers without someone stopping me to ask where I found ’em.

So, shop now and find your next pair – but if you decide to get the same ones I have, don’t tell me about it (because, otherwise, we might run into each other one day while wearing the same pair of shoes and that’ll just make the whole situation awkward).
